How to cope with insomnia during pregnancy.

It’s kind of funny how everyone tells you to get plenty of sleep during
pregnancy because after the baby is born you won’t get nearly
enough. So, you think, “easy” right? Not! Unfortunately researchers
who have studied the last months of pregnancy say it’s one of the most
difficult times in a woman’s life to get a good night’s sleep. Not only
are there many sleep disruptions such as leg cramps, backache,
heartburn, abdominal discomfort, and increased trips to the
bathroom, but often the quality of the sleep actually get suffers too.
Studies show that the amount of “REM” sleep you get decreases as
pregnancy increases.

So how do you get more & better sleep? Here are some suggestions:

maintain a regular sleep/awake schedule daily

eat a balanced diet

avoid food 2 to 3 hours before you sleep

have a glass of milk, which contains L-tryptophan (an acid that helps induce sleep)

practice muscle relaxation

try visualization

exercise, but not close to your bedtime

Happy Dreams!!
